Domain registration and renewal explained

When you register a domain through Mind Byte, you're securing the right to use that domain name for a set period (usually 1-2 years). We'll send renewal reminders well before your domain expires, and you can enable auto-renewal in the client portal so you never lose a domain by accident.

.com.au and .au domains

Australian domains have eligibility rules set by .au Domain Administration (auDA). To register a .com.au domain, you generally need an active ABN, ACN, or registered trademark, and the domain name needs to be either an exact match, abbreviation, or acronym of your business or trademark name. If your business details change (for example, you close your ABN), your domain's eligibility can be affected, so it's worth keeping these details current.

.com, .net and other international domains

These don't have the same eligibility requirements and can usually be registered by anyone.

If your domain lapses without renewal, there's typically a short grace period before it becomes available for anyone else to register, but we'd always recommend renewing on time or switching on auto-renewal to avoid the risk altogether.
